Cross-Media Measurement

Measuring the same audience across TV, OTT, YouTube, Meta and digital as one unified view.

Definition

Cross-media measurement is the practice of measuring the same audience across multiple media channels — such as linear TV, OTT, YouTube, Meta and digital — as a single, unified view rather than as separate platform-by-platform reports. Instead of asking how each channel performed in isolation, cross-media measurement answers how a campaign performed across every screen combined: who was actually reached, how often, where audiences overlapped, and which channels added genuinely new audience.

Why it matters

Media is now planned and consumed across screens, but most measurement is still trapped in silos. Each platform reports its own reach using its own definitions, and those numbers cannot simply be added together — doing so double-counts the same people and overstates true reach. Cross-media measurement matters because it gives advertisers, agencies and broadcasters one honest picture of audience delivery, so budget decisions are based on real reach and real outcomes instead of inflated, duplicated platform totals.

How it is measured

Cross-media measurement works by observing exposure to the same people across different media environments through a consistent, single-source approach, then resolving overlap between channels. This produces deduplicated reach, true frequency, incremental contribution by channel, and — when connected to behavioural signals — a link between exposure and downstream outcomes.

How SYNC measures cross-media measurement

SYNC is a single-source cross-media measurement platform. It measures the same people across linear TV, OTT, YouTube, Meta and digital, removes audience overlap to show deduplicated reach and frequency, highlights which channels add incremental reach, and connects exposure to real outcome behaviour — giving teams one decision-ready view of cross-screen performance.

Frequently asked questions

Cross-media measurement is measuring the same audience across multiple channels (TV, OTT, YouTube, Meta, digital) as one unified, deduplicated view rather than as separate platform reports.

Because the same person is often reached on more than one platform. Adding platform-reported reach double-counts those people and overstates true reach. Cross-media measurement deduplicates audiences to show how many unique people were actually reached.
